January 29, 2002 GENEVA, N.Y.Hobart College junior Joe Corbett (Haverford School/Philadelphia, Pa.) was named the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Mens Basketball Forward of the Week after leading the Statesmen to a 2-1 week. Hobarts leading scorer and rebounder earned his fourth weekly honor of the season by averaging 19.3 ppg, 13.3 rpg, and 1.3 blocks per game in his three starts. On Jan. 22, Corbett opened the week with 13 points and 10 rebounds in a home loss to Hamilton. Three days later, he registered 17 points and 11 boards in a two-point victory over St. Lawrence. The following afternoon, Corbett closed out the week with a pair of season-highs, scoring 28 points and collecting 19 caroms to lead Hobart past Clarkson, 69-64. His performance against the Golden Knights marked the 44th double-double of his career. The 2001 Regional All-American leads the Statesmen and ranks fourth in the UCAA in scoring (17.0 ppg) and leads the team and the league in rebounding (11.6 rpg). Earlier this season, Corbett became just the 17th Statesman to record 1,000 career points, and currently ranks 10th on Hobarts all-time list with 1,100. Hobart is 9-9 overall and tied for second in the UCAA with a 4-3 record, one game behind league frontrunners Union and Rensselaer. The Statesmen travel to Hamilton this evening for an 8 p.m. tip-off before returning home on Feb. 1 to take on Union. Tip-off with the Dutchmen is scheduled for 8 p.m. |
